What support and benefits will I receive on the course?
As the degree is accredited by Birmingham City University, students have access to the full range of university services such as the library, academic support and societies.
Students with additional needs are very well cared for and support plans are put in place when needed. Many of our students achieve a high degree classification due to care and advice they are given whereas they may have felt ‘lost’ in a large institution.
All three cohorts are invited to regular team-building and enrichment events. Recently, these have included adventure activities, go-karting, and orienteering.
Across the three-year course, students are shown a wide range of school settings such as research schools, SEND schools, pupil referral units, nurseries and secondary schools. The range of school placements allows students to experience tiny village schools to large technologically advanced schools so they can choose where they would like to work once qualified. This range of experience also makes them highly employable.
Students are mentored in their school setting by experienced primary school teachers. Extensive mentor training is given to ensure teachers are skilled in supporting trainee teachers via effective target setting and supportive coaching techniques. Clear communication between Haybridge SCITT course leaders and school mentors ensures that students feel well supported.
Students have access to our gym, the cafeteria, wi-fi and free onsite parking. The site is a two-minute walk from Hagley train station and local bus routes. Students often walk into Hagley village together as there is great range of cafes, shops and pubs. Extensive career advice is given in the third year, resulting in high employment rates in excellent schools.
