What is a School Centred Initial Teacher Training Postgraduate course?

SCITT stands for School Centred Initial Teacher Training. It is a type of teacher training course which is school based. This route is perfect for people who prefer a hands-on approach to learning and want to learn in a vocational way. Instead of focusing heavily on university-based studies, SCITT allows trainees to learn directly from experienced teachers and engage in real-world classroom settings. This approach can be more appealing to those who want to make an immediate impact on students’ learning and development.

SCITT courses at Haybridge usually last ten months (full-time), lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and include a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and Masters level credits. The Qualified Teacher Status (QTS only) route is also available, which means there are no requirements for academic assignments. The SCITT route is particularly suited to those who thrive in a vocational learning environment.

The SCITT route is considered one of the most direct and effective ways to become a teacher, offering a blend of professional experience and academic qualification. If you’re someone who enjoys learning, the school-centred approach can be an excellent choice.
