How will I gain a degree?
Your degree is awarded by Birmingham City University but delivered by us in a smaller environment. You will receive exactly the same degree as you would by attending BCU but with all the benefits of a personalised experience.
To gain your degree from the programme described, you will need to complete the following steps:
Attend the taught sessions
- Your academic lectures will be delivered at Haybridge High School in dedicated teaching rooms, once a week for a day and a half.
- These stay the same days for the whole year, allowing you to plan work or childcare around them.
- The sessions are designed to break down complex academic research into manageable, engaging chunks, which will help you absorb and understand the material.
Engage in the Learning Process
- Each module is taught with a focus on evidence-informed practice, drawing from academic research and best practices in teaching. This will be presented in a way that is accessible but also thought-provoking.
- Active participation is encouraged, including engaging in discussions. This will help deepen your understanding and ensure you’re thinking critically about the topics being covered.
Complete Assignments for Each Module
- At the beginning of each module, an assignment will be set. This is your main method of assessment for the module.
- After attending the lectures and completing any required readings, you will need to research and write your assignment. You will focus on one module at a time, giving you the opportunity to dive deeply into the content and understand it thoroughly before moving on to the next.
- Assignments will be linked to the module content and include written essays, presentations and portfolios of teaching evidence.
Utilise the Resources Available
- As your degree is accredited by Birmingham City University, you will have access to university resources, including their physical and online library, which will be essential for your research and assignments.
- The Haybridge team will also provide tutorials to support you.
Complete the Research Project in Your Final Year
- In the third year, you will be required to complete a research project. This will allow you to explore an area of education that particularly interests you.
- You will conduct independent research and present your findings, demonstrating both your understanding of the subject and your ability to carry out academic inquiry.
Graduation
- Upon successfully completing all the required modules and the research project, you will be eligible to graduate.
- You will attend a graduation ceremony at Symphony Hall in Birmingham with other graduates from Birmingham City University, marking the culmination of your hard work and studies.
By following this structure, staying on top of your assignments, and actively participating in the learning process, you will be able to earn your degree and gain the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as a teacher.
