What is the primary teaching degree?
People often ask, ‘Can I Become a Teacher Without a Degree?’
At Haybridge School Centred Initial Teacher Training, we offer the Midlands’ only school-centred undergraduate degree. This provides a direct route to becoming a qualified teacher without the need to attend a university.
In just three years, you’ll earn both a BA Hons in Primary and Early Years Education alongside Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)—a unique qualification pathway that combines academic study with extensive hands-on experience.
A Personalised Learning Experience
Our programme offers a highly interactive and supportive learning environment. Academic lectures are delivered by experienced primary education specialists in small groups of no more than 20 students. This enables a more personalised approach to learning, where you can engage directly with the content and your peers. You’ll explore the primary curriculum, effective teaching methods, and practical strategies for classroom management— all through dynamic, discussion-based seminars rather than large lectures.
We believe in a learning style that encourages participation, and our students love the close-knit atmosphere, where everyone’s voice is heard and valued. With our consistent timetable, you can plan your studies around work or family commitments, offering flexibility and stability throughout the programme.
Learning Through Experience
Unlike traditional university routes, our students spend significantly more time in schools, learning through hands-on experience. For the full academic year, you’ll be placed in schools for two days per week, alongside extended block placements. This immersive experience allows you to work with children from Reception through to Year 6, teaching across all subjects and gaining a rich understanding of the primary school experience.
Beyond classroom teaching, you’ll also take part in the wider school life— from harvest festivals and nativity plays to school trips, performances, and parents’ evenings. As a valued member of the school team, you’ll be mentored and supported throughout your journey, gaining practical insights and building meaningful professional relationships.
