What will I learn on the Secondary Course?

Haybridge High School has an excellent national reputation, securing the very highest outcomes for the students here. Many of our secondary trainees are placed here or in our Trust schools. We also have strong links with many other secondary schools, meaning that our trainees will be placed in a high-quality school, local to where they live. 

For your school placements, you will be based in two of our placement schools within the secondary department that you are specialising in which allows you to experience high-quality teaching right from the beginning of the course. It is our belief that by investing in the next generation of teachers, we can secure the best outcomes for young people and, therefore, we seek to attract and train the highest calibre trainee teachers. 

You will be trained in an extremely supportive environment at Haybridge High School. Sessions are taught by experienced secondary school teachers and expert colleagues. These are delivered to all the secondary trainees together so that trainees can become familiar with all departments in a secondary school. Trainees also benefit from a specialist subject pedagogy input. These sessions are run by a practicing teacher in your chosen subject. This allows the taught content to be revisited in a subject specific way such as how to conduct practical investigations in science or assessment in art. Subject knowledge is also developed through these sessions.

Our Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programme provides the experience of training within schools from the start of September, together with high quality core and subject training delivered by expert practitioners, consistent with the requirements for meeting the Teachers’ Standards and gaining Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
