Flexible Programmes

We offer full time and part time teacher training programmes with a range of flexible routes into teaching to suit your needs.

The part-time route is perfect if you have other commitments such as young children, caring for elderly relatives or if you need to continue to work. You experience the same high-quality Central Education Programme sessions and gain the same amount of teaching experience, only this is spread over two years instead of one.

We are one of the only local providers to provide the QTS only route postgraduate qualification. By choosing to exclude the three academic assignments, this allows you to concentrate on the practical teaching. This route is often taken by trainees who already have academic qualifications such as a Masters.

Based in Hagley, Stourbridge, we work with several high-achieving, aspirational schools across the West Midlands to offer all our students and trainees placements near where they live. The Central Education Programme sessions take place once a week at our base in Hagley (twice a week for undergraduate students), with the rest of the week spent in placement schools. The Central Education Programme sessions are structured to provide trainees and students the theoretical knowledge they need in order to teach. These skills learnt can later be applied in the classroom during school placements.

Train to teach in an extremely friendly environment, with a helpful team supporting you every step of the way.

Why Train With Us?

What does SCITT look like?

Haybridge Alliance SCITT offers School Centred Initial Teacher Training, where you train to become a teacher while working in a school every day. You complete a year’s teacher training (full-time course) or two years’ training (part-time course). We offer:

  1. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) full-time and part-time with PGCE linked to Bath Spa University, providing a Postgraduate Certificate which carries with it sixty credits towards a Masters degree.
  2. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) full time and part time.
  3. Assessment Only

The benefit of School Centred Initial Teacher Training is that you are inducted into school life from day one, gaining valuable classroom experience, working alongside excellent, successful practitioners, enabling you to master your subject knowledge, your theory of teaching (called pedagogy) and your classroom management skills. It is an effective, challenging and rewarding route into teaching, and we treat all trainees as individuals, identifying their needs in order to ensure they achieve excellent outcomes.

At Haybridge Alliance SCITT, you will be supported by a mentor throughout the year, and will have regular training days with other trainees in all subjects, where you will gain experience in the theory and practice of teaching, understanding of whole school issues, and a chance to share ideas with both new and experienced teachers.

Where will I be based?

The Central Education Programme sessions are held at:

  • Main Site – Haybridge Alliance SCITT, Brake Lane, Hagley, Worcestershire, DY8 2XS

For your school placements, you will be based in two (three for undergraduates) of our placement schools, all of which are dedicated to teaching and learning and the pursuit of excellence, ensuring that all trainees have the best possible educational experience, whatever their ability, circumstances or gender. It is our belief that by investing in the next generation of teachers, we can secure the best outcomes for young people and, therefore, we seek to attract and train the highest calibre trainee teachers.

Is it for me?

We are looking for new graduates and career-changers to become excellent, dedicated teachers. You should have a strong understanding of the subject you wish to teach before you start training, and a commitment to delivering your subject in an engaging and creative way. We have developed a virtual online school experience package in the hope that this will provide all virtual visitors with an insight into what it is like to be a teacher and if it is the right career path for them.

To help you make your decision we offer:

  • An overview and guidance documents
  • A tour of the school and our facilities
  • Information about your chosen subject and the school curriculum
  • Early Career Teacher testimonials
  • Current & previous Initial Teacher Trainee (ITT) testimonials
  • Haybridge Alliance SCITT Programme booklet & flyer
  • Q&A Booklet from previous trainees
  • An invitation to our Train to Teach events

You will also be able to contact one of our current trainees to speak with them via email about their experience so far on our Initial Teacher Training Programme.

If you would like to find out more, please contact us.

How will I afford to train?

There are a number of bursaries available to trainees, which can be up to £28k depending on what you are training to teach. The most up-to-date information is available from the Department for Education.

I would highly recommend Haybridge Alliance SCITT as a training provider. The support and encouragement has been immense, in particular from the SCITT team and teaching staff. The subject-specific mentors based at Haybridge have been incredible at imparting their knowledge and providing guidance and I am extremely grateful to them all!

Lauren
Biology Part Time Trainee

I would recommend Haybridge Alliance SCITT 100% today, tomorrow and forever. This journey into becoming a teacher would not have been a success for me without their dedication. Every push and all feedback that came my way from the SCITT was essential to master the art of teaching. Haybridge Alliance SCITT has provided me with the most exceptional environment, which a trainee teacher needs to exceed.

Darpan
Computing Trainee

Teacher training is a very rewarding, but at times very difficult journey. The team at Haybridge Alliance SCITT understand that it can be difficult and have been very supportive at the times when the going has been tough and for this I would definitely recommend then. I’m glad I decided to go with Haybridge as I’ve had the opportunity to do a lot more teaching than I would if I’d picked [a university route].

Nick
History Trainee

Everyone has been really supportive, positive and reassuring. It has been good to be back at Haybridge – now as a trainee, rather than a student! The year has been very rewarding and engaging.

It has been full of content with lots of lessons to learn, but also truly inspiring and an excellent platform to start my teaching career. Thank you for all your help.

Chloe
Primary Trainee

I chose Haybridge Alliance SCITT because I wanted to gain hands-on experience in an outstanding school where I can learn how to teach. The programme is challenging but also very rewarding.

The Monday professional sessions are of high quality and were designed to complement the practical modules. I really feel more confident and passionate about becoming a teacher than ever before. The support of mentors and staff is phenomenal.

Abdoul
Computing Trainee

Training with Haybridge Alliance SCITT has been life changing. It has given me access to the very best advice, support and teaching practice to enable me to develop as both an individual and a teacher.

During my placements, both of my assigned mentors went above and beyond to make sure that my experience was as beneficial, yet at the same time challenging as possible. The knowledge and expertise shared by both the SCITT staff and the staff within placement schools has been invaluable and has undoubtedly helped me to develop on my journey to becoming a teacher.

Steven
English trainee

Love, love, love this course! The support from the SCITT team is incredible, really outstanding. Learning to teach straight away and teaching almost immediately was such a benefit. The students only see you as their teacher and you can take it at your own pace.

I am so happy that I chose to go down the SCITT route as I have loved every minute of it and would recommend it to anyone looking to do a teaching course.

Pippa
Music Trainee

So far, I have learnt a lot on this programme and I am really enjoying learning how to teach to the best of my ability. The support on the course has been exceptional. I know I can ask for advice on anything in school and I will get good guidance. Completing the Paid Mathematics and Physics Internship was a great experience for me. It gave me a month in the educational environment and really made my mind up that I wanted to go into teaching. Without completing that, I feel I would not have enrolled on this course.
